![]() ![]() I purchased the retail disc version through Amazon Prime, not the download version. I should have listened to those reviews and so should you. Before I purchased Powerdvd 15 Ultra, I read the reviews posted here and was astounded by how negative they were based on my experience with previous versions. My last purchase before this one was Powerdvd 12 Ultra. I probably have owned 7 different versions of this software. I felt compelled to express my feelings concerning this software. This is the first review I have ever posted of a product that I purchased on Amazon. I am changing my original review rating from 1 star to 4 stars. Was this a lot of work to get to this point, yes it was but it was worth it. I have no answer why the Powerdvd 15 Ultra retail version disc didn't function. Blu-ray discs were played in 1080p 24 frames resolution. The program even played various video files with up-converted image quality. Powerdvd 15 Ultra functioned as advertised delivering a crisp clean image on all the DVD and Blu-ray discs that I offered up. All programs installed quickly and accepted the license keys. The activation keys and downloads were available immediately after my purchase. I purchased the download copy of Powerdvd 15 Ultra that came with a bundle of Photo Director 6 Ultra and Power2Go 10 Platinum, all for the same cost and with extended downloads. I backed up my files, wiped my drive completely clean and re-installed a fresh copy of windows 7 professional. I was never comfortable not getting this software to function and considered the possibility that there was something wrong within my installation copy of windows. I returned the retail copy of Powerdvd 15 Ultra I purchased on Amazon Prime. If you just want to watch the odd DVD, however, despite it's name, we'd recommend avoiding PowerDVD 13 and sticking with good old free VLC.I have additional information to add to the previous review below. VerdictĬharging £34.99/AU$54.95/US$54.95 for the PowerDVD 13 Deluxe version, £59.99/AU$89.95/US$79.95 for the PowerDVD 13 Pro option and £79.99/AU$109.95/US$99.95 for the PowerDVD Ultra iteration was always going to be a hard sell in a world of pre-installed Windows Media Player and free VLC Player.īut there are enough features to make PowerDVD 13 worth considering, especially if you have a high resolution display and a home network full of media streamers. The ability to import and easily synchronise subtitles from third-party websites makes this a very versatile media playback tool for the multilingual among us. It's no killer feature, but it's quite a nice way of displaying your media collection, especially if you're using a PC connected to a TV. Streaming media to and from devices across a home network has been tidied up and improved, and you can pull in cover art, plot synopses and more from CyberLink's service. The software supports a wide range of file formats, including AVCHD 2.0 and lossless APE audio, with CyberLink boasting that PowerDVD 13 is the only multimedia software to support MKV and DTS playback for Windows RT tablets, thanks to the PowerDVD Mobile app. Opening other files such as photos and music is also very swift. If you miss them, though, they can be easily turned back on. The process of loading and playing a Blu-ray has been sped up considerably, mainly by disabling some of the interactive features such as BD-Live, which to be fair not many of us ever used. ![]() ![]() The TrueTheater effects can be easily tweaked with sliders, and there are handy options to split the video, or play it side-by-side so that you can compare before and after results.Īs in previous versions, CyberLink PowerDVD 13 can also upscale 2D video to 3D, and while the process has been improved since its debut, it's still no substitute for native 3D video, which CyberLink PowerDVD 13 handles without a problem.ĬyberLink's hand has been strengthened somewhat by Microsoft's decision not to include native Blu-ray playback in Windows 8, and to limit Media Player to only certain versions. With TrueTheater HD on its default settings the image was sharper, with subtle tweaks to the colour balance that made an already stunning high definition look even better. ![]()
